How to feed platy fry?

So I got 5 platy fry today. I crushed up flake food into powder and put it in the breeder box. But some of them are not eating it. Should I be dipping it into the water instead of putting it into the box at the top? It's just floating now.

? What do you mean dipping it into the water? Do you mean the box? if you mean the box it should be fine floating(partially submerged) at the edge of the tank. Maybe the flake granules are too big... you could try feeding egg yolk, though its very messy. Another more time consuming food is brine shrimp; egg yolk and flakes should work though.

Your fish store likely sells frozen foods. I feed mine a mix of frozen Baby Brine Shrimp and Daphnia as that's small enough for them to eat. Shouldn't run you too high.

No I mean the flake food. Some people just let it float while others make sure that it sinks so the fry see it. They seem to get it now. Should I be removing leftover food after an hour?

yeah, I think you should since if you don't it'll probably foul up the water

I fed only flakes for first few weeks to my first lot of platy fry then a few red worms and mostly flakes and 23/26 have grown to now be good sized at month three. I think these things are often complicated. They’ll eat them from the top or the bottom. An issue is over feeding but you can remove rotting food with a pipette.

I like the Wardley Shrimp Pellets for catfish and loaches for fry. It powders super small and sinks. My platy fry did very well on it and I keep it as a staple for small fish along with micropellets

marine rotiffers or baby brine shrimp or micro worms to feed the fry
