How To Feed Neon Tetras / Middle Feeders?

I recently bought 6 neon tetras and I'm struggling to figure out how to feed them. I bought flake food and also minI pellets that are supposedly "slow sinking" but they seem to sink pretty darn fast. They seem to nibble at the flakes as they fall, but they still let the majority of it fall to the bottom. As for the pellets, they grab some of those but then keep spitting them out? So those keep gathering on the ground too - partly because they fall so fast. I try to remove most of the food with a turkey baster, but I know I'm not getting all of it.

What's the best way to feed these "middle feeders" but also not totally destroy my tank with food on the bottom of the tank? I'm tired of using the turkey baster after every single time I feed them...

I've always just had betta fish which are conveniently surface feeders... so much easier to make sure they eat everything you're giving them.

Any tips appreciated!

My discus, which are bottom to middle feeders, actually learned to come to the surface to get food in a week or two. Your tetras might do the same, what brand of food, and what specific food are you feeding them?

Give them a little time to adjust and get hungry. I have 18 in a 40b and they eat flake, pellet and bloodworms from the top to the bottom of the tank.

OK - hopefully these guys will learn too. I am using Top Fin tropical flakes and Omega One Marine MinI Pellets. Thanks for the advice!

OK - sounds good. I will give them time. They hang out mostly toward the bottom of the tank (it's a 10g)

I got bloodfin tetras for my tank, they were extremely shy for a couple weeks but now they actively school along the glass when I come nearby or disturb the water. They nearly outcompete everything, no matter what I put in the tank. Your neons should adjust, it just may take them a while to learn that you're the being that gives them their food.

I have never spot fed any fish in my tanks. They will go to the bottom to eat it once it settles. Mine always have.
