How to Euthanize Betta with Clove Oil

DIYbetta
  • #1
So my betta (Queen) has been declining in health and I think she may have fish TB. This concerns me because of my health and my her quality of life. Me and my parents think we should euthanize her, so any information on how to do it with clove oil would be appreciated.

When you type a glossary word in a thread it comes up as a link. Euthanize came up as a link in your post, so click on that if you can, there is euthanization methods there I think.

Yeah, I'm really sorry too. It's the worst to lose a pet.

I might try and save her with some frozen or repashy food, because I can’t tell if she has fish TB or if she’s just malnourished.

Good diet can do wonders, i keep all my fish on fresh and fresh/frozen foods ONLY and NEVER feed dried or processed foods and i've never had any diseases in my tanks, going on 12 years. I usually lose fish to old age or occasional jumping.

I hope your change in her diet helps <3

So here are some progression pictures from when I first got her to now. She is 1 1/2-2 years old.

Greens? I thought betta splendens were completely carnivorous. I hope she recovers too.

It's hard to tell in the pics, but are her scales raised? She kind of looks like she has dropsy.

She dose not have any raised scales, she’s just bloated. I believe it has something to do with diet or the fact that crowntail females are known for random bloating. And she’s looked like this all her life so I don’t think it’s dropsy.

How much do you feed?

I only feed two or three soaked pellets per meal and she gets fed twice a day. She dose like to pick at the cory’s shrimp pellets, but spits them right out (which creates a mess).

her fins look bad like fin rot and judging by the leave in the last pic behind her it seems like a water quality problem. Do you do weekly WC's of at least 30-50%?

I do 25% changes weekly, and the leaf died of being covered by algae (which is a current problem). I recently had to buy a new filter so my ammonia is a little jacked, but I’m doing everything I can to fix it, and her problems started way before this. My water parameters are:
Ammonia: 0.15
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 20
Ph: 6.8-7.2 (it was hard to tell)

Maybe do some water changes to help with the Ammonia? That could help but I haven't ever dealt with fish TB or anything other than Fin Rot.

i would up your WC's to 50-75% every couple days to really give her clean water and help with the fins and her lax behavior.

Just as a question, what makes you think she has fish TB? The pictures don't seem to show any deformities other than the fins. A mistake I always make is seeing something irregular about my Betta and assuming he has all the worst diseases.

I just did one yesterday, so probably not gonna do one today. She’s not been that lethargic if that’s what you meant by “lax”. I’m already dosing with prime everyday (which has helped a lot). Thank you for all your answers!

I'm thinking more bunged up than TB.

Can you quarantine this fish and get her away from alternate food sources?
Warmer water io increase metabolism, epsom salts as laxative, NO FOOD for three days. Then we can talk about peas....She can go 2 weeks without food btw.

I think she looks a bit rough too. How is she acting otherwise? If she's being bunged-up normal, hopefully she can respond to treatment!

Your pics are great. Could you fill this out too?

Well she had Popeye that I assumed was from an injury so I jumped to the conclusion that she had fish TB. Although she probably dose not have it.

Well at least that's one less thing to worry about.

She’s acting fine, and trust me I’ve tried everything in the book to get her bloating down and nothing worked. That’s why I’m changing up her diet.

On a different note she may have given some fin rot to one of my cories. Although he’s the most normal acting of the whole lot.

I believe that you want to save Queen so please understand this: Changing her diet will do nothing. Access to food needs to cease for her to get rid of what is in her body. Very likely she is constipated.

There is most likely a bacterial issue going on in your tank as evidence by her fins. The popeye could have been caused by injury or again, a bacterial issue. If dropsy develops, that could be much harder to treat so it's best to get on top of her issues now. It looks like there is a water quality issue.

I think if anyone thought she was too far gone, they would talk to you about clove oil (excellent choice of doing "that", btw)

Please fill out the template. I hope you will continue sharing information to get help for Queen.

Last fall,my marble koi (blue/red/white) bloated up really bad so I fasted 3 days, fed 1 day and fast 2 days. Then I went back to normal feed cycle.

It really helped.

It's hard because we associate food with love, but in the wild animals do not eat everyday.

Good luck with her, she's lovely.

I changed up her diet and I’ve been fasting her for 3-4 days at a time and I personally think she looks better, not to mention her fins are growing back. What I feed: frozen brine, frozen bloodworms, freshwater frenzy, and emerald entre ( all San Francisco Bay brand )
Parameters:
Ammonia: 0.0
Nitrite: 0.0
Ph: 6.5-7
Nitrate: 10- 20

She posed for me today, got a great pic of her. I switched up her tank a bit because she got just a little aggressive. Here are some pictures!
