How to deal with fish tank mold?

So I have a tank that was cycled and had fish. Then the fish were given away and the tank just sat there for a bit. I noticed mold (Looks like mold, or some other white fuzzy fungus), so I cleaned out the whole thing and replaced the filter cartridge that was also overdue for a replacement. Then I figured that the cycle crashed, so I decided to put some fish food in to start the cycle again. It has only been two days and there is mold again. I am still new at this hobby and I have no idea what is going on. How should I proceed? There are currently a few plants and no fish in the tank btw.

Easiest thing to do it seems is to empty out, maybe sit it in the sun or put a fan on it for a few days to kill the spores...assuming it is in fact mold. Get a fresh start and more importantly a definite timeline on things. Plants will be fine in a bucket of water for a few days.

Of course you could always try and deal with it in water but seems more trouble than it’s worth imo.

Thanks for your response. How will I know when the mold spores are gone and what should I do with the gravel and decorations?

the mold you are seeing, is it like a white fuzz in ball forms? If so its most likely just the food you are putting in. Fish food will turn to that moldy state withing approx 24 hours. Really nothing to worry about just remove it or get some bottom feeders to eat it all up lol.

It is. I had no idea food molded that quickly. So if I remove it then it won't harm the fish?

It’s not dangerous to fish. It’s part of the process of decomposition. Eventually all it it will break down and dissolve into the water. I mean if there’s no fish in the tank, leave it. It’s how you keep the cycle going.
