How to deal with fin rot?

I think my fish may have fin rot, the fins are starting to get jagged and slowly coming off. They had fin rot a while ago when I think my tank got columnaris and a lot of their fins are messed up but a lot of it grew back and it's been a whine since then. But how do you deal with it? I dont have money at the moment to buy medicine for the fin rot but I been reading that water changes help a lot? I do have aquarium salt would that help? I also checked my tank readings and everything was good except the nitrates were a little high.

If you state that your Nitrates maybe a bit high, I personally would do a 50% WC now, and then 10% daily. Then it would be nice to get some additional detail about the tank.

So back when I got a new 45 gallon tank for someone it came with a bunch of decorations and sand and everything. I cleaned that tank like 3 or 4 times and made sure everything was clean. Ran everything under hot water, did a vinegar and water clean to the tank decorations. I then cycled the tank and make sure everything was good so I could put my fish in. And for about a month or about less then a month the fish were doing great, swimming and eating. Then my silver dollars slime coat was started to look bad and fuzzy. So I came on here and asked people if they knew what it was and most of them that answered were positive it was columnaris. So they told me how to deal with it and I tried my best, I lost about half of the fish in my tank. But when the Columnaris was happening the silver dollars tails were starting to like slowly come off. Anyway I got it under control and medicated the tank and put them in a temporary tank till I cleaned everything again and set it up once again. Once they got back into their normal tank and everything was okay their tail fins started to grow back as much as they could (the ones that I managed to save) their tail fins never fully came back from that but a lot of it did. But skip to now their in their new tank and they are doing good they are still eating and swimming around, dont seem stressed at all but i just notice that their tail fins are starting to come jagged and slowly falling off again. I try my hardest to make sure everything is good but I feel like I just always keep messing up:/ and yeah I know one of their tails is pretty bad but the rest of it wouldnt grow back after the columnaris. A lot of it did grow back though.

Um, I am not a 100% sure but, It looks like fin rot it or it could also be a tear. But since it is so clean it is probably a tear.

Looks like a tear to me. Water changes will help prevent it from getting infected.

Thank you! I'm just gonna keep doing water changes. I did a water change the day before yesturday and the fin tails dont seem to be coming off. I was just worried because one of them had like a little white chunk coming off but I'm just gonna keep doing more water changes

How would I deal with fin rot? Just keep up with water changes?
