How To Cover Aqueon Quietflow Filter Intake Cover

I am in need of finding a way of covering an Aqueon QuietFlow intake, but I don't have any sponges or pantyhose.
My beautiful rose tail betta has already slit his tail in the intake, which I am not happy about. He does it by getting exciting, swimming all around and behind the intake, and then he gets sucked a bit and jumps off because it scares him.

What can I use to cover it?

 

A sponge or pantyhose.

 

Do you have any filter floss? You could tie a bit of that on or as a desperate temporary measure, a bit of cotton wool covered with one of those little nets that garlic comes in. I'm trying to think of things that you might have lying around!
A bit of net cut from one of those shower 'puff' things or a bit of net curtain?

I've used all sorts of bits and bobs as emergency (and permanent) fixes...

As they say- 'necessity is the mother of invention' ! ☺

 

A more permanent solution, if you can order it, is to get the top fin internal filter 20 size sponges.

They come with some carbon in them, and only cost like $4 or $5....
