My betta fish died and I really don't know why. I took the whole tank apart and soaked all the decor in hot water. Now they are drying off. I don't plan on using them for awhile so I'm just gonna store it all in a trash bag until I start up a new betta tank. Is there anything else I should do so that when I use them again my new fish won't be at risk of getting anything my previous fish had?

    Boiling is the key

It was as hot as my water gets. I don't want to boil cause the decor is silk and plastic mostly and I don't want to ruin them. I also rinsed the gravel 7-8 times.

Most pathogens will die with a hot water rinse and a thorough drying. And many need a host fish to survive very long. I do use a bleach solution but not sure if it's necessary most of the time.
