How to clean a snail tank Question

I have a small tank dedicated to growing out and allowing snails to breed freely in order to produce snacks for my Pea Puffer. They have eggs plastered all over that tank, and there are many, many babies... Or I should say, were many many babies. While doing routine tank maintenance, I thoughtlessly put the gravel vac in there to clean out the snail poo, and (gee, what a shocker) now there's very few babies in the tank.

Aside from employing common sense next time, and not killing off the puffer snacks, is there a way to clean out the tank without vacuuming up the babies?

turkey baster to get poo out.
Thanks. I have one sitting next to their tank... It just didn't occur to me that I could use it in there. Serious blonde moment.
