How To Best Catch Fast Fish?

hey fish fam!

I have 9 silver tips in my 40 gallon that I'm having a hard time catching. I've been thinking of different methods like setting a trap with the net and guiding with hand or making a water bottle trap. I was wondering if any of these methods worked for you? Or if you have alternative methods for catching fast fish i'm all ears!

thanks,
ben

To catch fish i....
1) remove as much water as possible. A low water level means it's harder for them to swim over or under a net
2) remove as many decorations/plants/whatever as possible. So that there's no small spaces they can swim through.
3) use 2 nets. Makes it a whole lot easier.

Agree one net to scoop and another to round em up and chase into the net.

I use bottle trap for guppies.

Two nets for other fish.

A nice, clear, bag works wonders. But removing as much water and decorations is a sure-fire way to snag them.

When I need to catch mollies I put some food in a net. I allow just a tiny bit to come out at a time. They get so involved in catching the bits and pieces as it comes out they soon ignore the net and just see the food. Eventually they swim right into the net to get to the food quicker.

It takes patience but at least it isn't as stressful to them or me as it would be while chasing them. I actually feed out of a net occasionally so the fish start seeing it as a good thing.

That is a most excellent ideal, If I had a big enough net I could catch all of my fish at once during feeding time.

I learned about this method from another member here on the forum. I thought it was a excellent idea too so started using it.

There is a great video on YouTube that I watched a day before doing a big tank upgrade and I netted my crazy tetras in just a few minutes can't figure out how to link it from the YouTube app on my phone but a simple search should find it. "How to catch fish tutorial" good luck!

I get a container, tip it on its side so it’s halfway full of water, put some food towards the back of it, wait for them to swim close enough to it, and scoop them up. The suction of the water pulls them right in to the container. I’ve tried draining the water and using a net to catch them, but I always get too close to injuring them. DelI cup with some food in it works best for me.
