How To Add New Plants To Aquarium? Snails Treatments?

My plants from Ebay and from a member here have arrived. I am a new to live plants, like brand new. I can visually see some pest snails and I have not even taken them out of the bags yet. I just got the boxes from the mailman.

But, do I need to do anything for these plants to ready them to go in the tank? Do I acclimate them? None of my fish eat snails, but I do have pleco coming. Will he eat them? I do not have pure bleach in the house but do have bleach cleaner stuff you spray on the walls in the shower, and I am sure there are other things in it. Can I do something other than picking the snails out or should I not worry?

Never mind, watched a few videos. Still not sure what to do about the pest snails, but I am going to put water in a bucket with dechlorinator and try to pick them off.

if you have some aquarium salt you can prepare a little bath for it. A pleco won't eat the snails

Don't use any household chemicals. You can create a Hydrogen Peroxide dip for the plants which should remove any snnails. Honestly snails are beneficial to planted tanks, many people just find them unsightly. They eat dead plant matter, uneaten food, and algae, keeping your tank clean (I adore my "pest" snails). Plants do not require acclimation like fish, but may temporarily melt back while adjusting to your water parameters.

Well trying to do multiquote but cannot seem to figure it out. Anywho, I do have aquarium salt, but Fahn says they are beneficial, so what to do, what to do. I am worried about them running over the tank. Like 1000s of them. Do Mystery Snails eat them? What fish can I get that will keep them in check for a 40 gallon breeder tropical tank? I am going to do a salt bath and try to remove as many as I can, and then not worry too much about it.

I believe clown loaches would take care of them.

Certain loaches and dwarf puffers will eat them. The only reproduce to the point that the tank can sustain them. If you do regular maintenance and don't overfeed you'll still have quite a few but it won't be anything out of control. Personally, I love my tanks having tons of snails, but I understand why many people do not want them to reproduce uninhibited.

Reasons I like them:
>they feed on algae, uneaten food, decaying plant matter and other detritus
>they keep the glass and plants looking clean and tidy
>they are cute and interesting to watch
>they are harmless to healthy plants, shrimp, and fish
>their waste fertilizes my aquasoil, providing nutrients for my plants
>when they die, their shells dissolve, putting calcium and minerals back into the water
>my dwarf crayfish and even my corys seem to enjoy snacking on them on occasion

Well they are all planted. Let me just say what a pain in the tookus to plant plants. I had no weights other than what the seller wrapped them in, nothing to tie them to my driftwood other than nooks and crannies. Tried burying them under gravel, some didn't stay, my entire shirt was soaking wet, so let's hope they root and grow for me. I even put a strand of each of the tall plants in my betta tanks. They are already resting in it.

Honestly, for now, not gonna worry about snails. We shall see. Cannot put a loach in the betta tanks, so here is hoping they stay free of pest snails or at least minimal snails.

I bought 2 anubias tied to small driftwood, want to find some bigger pieces of that. They are easy, just stick them in where you want them.

Oh and although it is my dream to have dwarf puffers, I cannot in this tank, as I am told they are aggressive and will eat my mystery snails and cory's.

I believe clown loaches would take care of them.

Gonna research their care and how many I would have to have, do they school, etc., better in pairs, etc., temp best provided for them, alternate food if not too many pest snails.

Kinda feel bad now getting rid of these pest snails. There is a baggy with some water in it and I can see at least 6 in it. Can I just keep them in a bowl or tupperware container w/o filtration and a hunk of plant and see what happens with them or will they die?

I read 3 of them. But in a hurry to get to work soon so didn't delve too far into it. I read they eat plants too.

One further question on these pest snails. How does one count them as far as if you are overstocked? I have yet to add fish, so just have the mystery snails and cory's, but plan to, just have not decided what I want yet, but do I have to account for the possibility of pest snails?
