I've been battling an outbreak of planaria in my Fahaka tank... I figured the filters I was running (hob) weren't doing a good job anymore so I got a canister filter and I'm ready to plug it in. The new canister has some of the old media plus new bio rings and a new carbon bag. In the tank there is 1 XL sponge filter running still, it's been in the tank for a while now. I removed the other sponge since I noticed the planaria was crawling all over it.
If I start running the canister now, will my tank go into a minI cycle?? I can't afford that to happen since I don't have another cycled tank I can move my fahaka to.

As long as you have your seeded media in the canister I can't see you going into a mini-cycle. Bacteria is on everything in your tank. Since the only thing you removed is the one sponge you left the majority of the bacteria in there.
