How safe is blasting sand?

aoiumi

I'm planning on changing my substrate, (and the bb hit that goes with it...) but I'm not sure on what to use. I really love the look of black substrate, and am thinking of using black diamond blasting sand, but I don't have any experience with it.

In your experience, how safe is it?

I've been considering it myself. From what I've read, it's very safe, tons and tons of people use it. It actually seems to be safer than some aquarium specific substrates.

Very safe, at least for all the fish I’ve kept on it.
its also much cheaper than the “aquarium sands”

the medium grit isn’t too sharp for bottom dwellers like corys

My daughter-in-law has it in several tanks, and it's in my 10 gallon red cherry shrimp tank. No issues. It needs to be cleaned, but that's true for a lot of substrate.

I recently set up a 10 gallon with it. So far no problems and it looks great.
I also used medium grit. I like it, but wonder if fine would have been okay.
