I got all of my fish at once when they were still small and growing. Had them for approx. 2 years. So I suppose all of my fish are anywhere between 2 - 2.5 years of age.

My oldest fish right now is Marty and he is 8 1/2 months old now. He is the oldest Betta I have and I may have an older Otocinclus catfish but I do not remember quite when I got Tuck but he is very nearly as old or older, perhaps 9 months old. I have only been keeping fish for 13 months though.

I just wanted to get an idea of how long some people have had their fish. I have a Irredescent Shark that is going on 16. He's one of the original fish I first got when getting started in this hobby. He'd probably be as big as the 90 gallon tank by now if he wasn't with other large fish.

90 gallon tank
2 Irredescent sharks
2 Bala Sharks
1 Red Finned Cigar Shark
3 Silver Dollars
2 Tinfoil Barbs
1 Spotted Pleco

I've only been in the hobby for 1.5 years. All my fancy plecos I got this time last year roughly...so all 4 are over a year old.

Wow, quick post! I just wanted to know if I should be proud (of the fish, not me ) for being able to survive through all my mistakes and neglect when I first started fishkeeping.

I'd be proud...if my fish were that old.

we started out right at the end of 2006/beginning of 2007 and our oldest fish would be Belle, one of our platys who we got the 1st weekend in January, so she's probably close to 1.5 years old.

That shark of yours has had some excellent care I think.

As Allie said, WOW. That's an old devil > I hope mine will last at least another 6 years. Unfortunately I'm gonna need to get a bigger tank. Or maybe that's a good thing! Thanks for the replies everybody.

Like 4 month old? Be advised I just rehomed all my fish a month ago and got the tetras I have now. I'm assuming they were only 3 months old when I got them...they look pretty young.

Oldest fish ever: a Pseudotropheus socolofi (Powder Blue) cichlid, who was 5 when I sold him back to the LFS since I had to tear down my tank.

A couple of our platys are about 14 months old + the age they were when we bought them, so they're at least 1.5 years.

My oldest is a 4+ yr old Spotted Raphael Catfish. I had a 5 yr old Tinfoil Barb but he died a few days ago. He is the oldest fish I've ever kept. He was one of the first fish I bought when I got back in to the hobby. Next in line would be my (I think 3yr old) Iridescent Sharks. My Oscar is maybe 1.5 yr. old and everyone else is less than a year old. Well, my Tomato Clown might be a year old now. It's easy to lose track of exact dates. They all bleed together in to, "I don't know... awhile ago". lol

I am going to have to admit that the oldest fish I own is the supposedly delicate and fragile and hard to keep Otocinclus Catfish (two of them the same age actually). When they get past the first 30 days they are as capable of living a long lifespan as any other fish. These have gotten over 2 years old and are going very strong as yet.

I have had a couple of my goldfish for 20-25 years. They started out in a 10 gallon tank in my bedroom when I was in high school. then they moved to a 20 gallon tank, then a 29 long tank, then a pond outside. My youngest fish is a year old copper (oh I hope she stays copper!) goldfish that was actually born in my pond last spring. My oldest are orange gold fish and my adult copper male is about 10 - 12 years old. My very oldest ( had her when I was in 8th grade) was an orange and white. A stray cat got her last summer. I found her out of the pond with a couple of bites out of her. She got a nice burial in our flower garden beneath a lemon scented thyme bush.

right now: I have three female betta who I have had for about four years, don't remember how old they were when I got them. Less then 6 months I think though. I have had my pleco for over two maybe three years but I have no clue how old he is really.

My uncle has a goldfish in his pond that I had when I was 7. I am 20 now. I may have gotten the fish before I was 7, I remember having it at 7 though. The fish looks different then all the other fish(which are all koi and not goldfish) so my uncle knows which one it is.

in the past: my goldfish billiebob was about 10-15 years old I think. I had her for 7 years and before that she lived in the schools tank for two years and before that she lived at another students home. I was given various ages by different teachers so I'm not quite sure how old she was, but she was older then any other fancy goldfish I had ever seen.

17 years is the longest

I have kept a fish. It was a black spiney cat fish. Had him for 17 years, kept getting bigger & bigger tanks for him. That's how I ended up with my 120 gal I have now. He was 16 1/2 in long & out grew my 120. I just gave him to a guy about a month ago that has an out door pond. I hope he lives another 10 years, I just didn't want him to live another 10 years in my tank. Heres the last pic I took of him before I found him a new home.

my oldest fish now are 4 cherry barbs that are 2 and a half years old. As a child I had a 13 year old goldfish. He was kept in a 2 gallon bowl with no filter and when he got cleaned out I emptied the whole tank and rinsed the gravel out.
