So I've seen threads on breeding bettas and a lot of people say "petstore bettas are usually too old to breed"
I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I made this :)
So how old are bettas found at pet stores?

Just looked it up on a Betta forum, says most large stores like Petsmart/Petco get them at 8-12 months old. But, also that it depends on the store. I know my Petco sales "Baby Bettas".

Petstore bettas vary greatly in age. The ones at my local Petco look like young 4-5 month olds, but I've seen others, in particular Walmart, they look older. The ones at the LFS that I frequent seem to come from different sources, some are obviously young and high quality some are questionable.

I don't understand why some stores have older bettas, unless they simply don't sell and sit on the shelf :( Not much profit in holding on to them long enough to get old.
