I recently started an RCS colony in a planted 10 gallon tank. The tank has been planted with java fern, anubias nana and java moss for several years and formerly housed a betta. While there is no visible algae there is likely biofilm on the surfaces.
I started with 11 shrimp, lost one, and have had several batches of 12-15 babies and have 3 berried females so my colony is quickly becoming well established. I have been feeding one slice of zuchinnI and one sinking cory tablet each week. I also have tiny shrimp pellets but have rarely used those.
Am I overfeeding, underfeeding or ok so far? While I've had fish for many years, this is my first experience with shrimp. It is by far my favorite tank right now and I'm hoping not to make too many mistakes.
I do a 20-25% weekly PWC and use a turkey baster to suck up debris on the bottom but there has been very little visible debris (black sand substrate). Ammonia and nitrite consistently 0, nitrate 10.
