How much to feed pleco?

I just got a pleco from a neighbor who is moving. He is about 6-7 inches. I'm worried he's not getting enough food. I give him a pleco wafer (tetra pro) every day or every other day. I've never seen him eating one, and I often find the outer layer next morning.
Should I 1) feed him more or less and 2) give him just pure algae wafers with an occasional cucumber or veggie selection?

Blanched zucchini and cucumbers are great. They also thrive by giving them drift wood. They need the fiber as far as I know. I give mine algae wafers but mine will also munch on some of my sinking shrimp pellets.

 

I forgot to mention that he does have driftwood. How often do you feed them these things?

 

I have mostly bottom feeders in my tank so I feed them once a day as well as multiple types of frozen and flake food / pellets twice a day. For my Betta and gourami's.

Also I would feed him at least 2 wafers a day, and the veggies you can do 2-3 times a week (or more). Just put in a small piece of the veggie and take out within 24 hours whatever is left over

2 wafers of what size? Mine are about an inch in diameter... seems like a lot but if you say so!

Sorry I over looked the brand. I would give him 1 a day, try putting it in the tank around 7-8pm. What type of pleco is it?

 

I watch my plecos' bellies. My guy in my 120g never has to be fed. He eats leftover foods and all the algae. He has a big fat belly all the time!


But I have 6 or 7 plecos in my 90g, so I have to feed them 4 algae wafers every 2 or 3 days to keep them nice and plump. They are breeding though, so I have to feed them more than the single pleco in the 120g. I also have 10 amano shrimp and assassin snails in the 90g tank so they have to share their wafers. I feed them at night so the angels don't steal the wafers.

That's what I've been doing, but I feed around 10. I'll try earlier. I am honestly not sure what kind he is- I think just a common pleco. Nice jaguar print though. Black and white. He will need to be rehomed eventually, or I will get him a nice big tank. He was kept in a 10g for the longest time (not by me)

That is such a great idea! I love the plump bellies. So cute. Mine is only in a 20g, and there is never much algae, so I'm not sure he is getting enough that way. I'll check his plumpness
