How Much PFS for All These Tanks?

I am re-aquascaping several tanks to resemble a more natural environment for the fish and to make a few tanks planted for the species that do well with them.

How many 50lb bags would I need for around 3" deep sand substrate for the following tanks:

55g for turquoise rainbowfish (planted)
29g rainbow cichlid tank (no live plants)
55g salvinI tank (no live plants)
55g blue acara tank (no live plants)
90g red-tailed tin foil barb tank (no live plants)
75g macaw cichlids (no live plants)

id say 1.5-2 pounds of sand per gallon

I would say maybe 6 or 7 bags. I put PFS in my 75g, about 2 inches, and that took a little less than half a bag.

If you buy too much, you can always save it for other tanks!

Hello Bolivianbaby I have nothing to add I just wanted to say I have serious tank envy wish I had the space for that many big tanks the possibilities would be nearly endless

Hey BB,
For a 3" sandbed (assuming full coverage), you'll want:

For the 55's (48" x 13" x 3") = 1.1 cubic feet, or approx 81 lbs per tank = 243lbs
For the 29 (30" x 12" x 3") = 0.625 cubic feet, or approx 47 lbs
For the 90 (48" x 18" x 3") = 1.5 cubic feet, or approx 112 lbs
For the 75 (48" x 18" x 3") = 1.5 cubic feet, or approx 112 lbs

So in summary, you'll want about 4.725 cubic feet, 514lbs or 37 stone. (in metric = 235 kg)

Or, just over 10 x 50lbs bags of PFS

I re-scaped the rainbowfish and rainbow cichlid tanks yesterday. As you can see, the cories love it! I will be re-scaping more tanks in a few weeks. There is a mixture of crushed coral in the sand to keep the PH up. The true PH of my tap water is 6.0 without it.

The rainbowfish tank has a few small live plants. Once they grow, it will fill out more.
