hello! I have hikari baby pellets for my fan tailed goldfish and I was wondering if 4 pellets 2 times a day is enough. people say "feed as much as they can eat in 2 minutes" but goldfish can eat a lot in 2 minutes and especially with fancy goldfish bloating and swim bladder is a big issue. so I need a strict amount of pellets because I don't want to overfeed my goldfish and cause health/tank issues. so whats he correct amount? my tank is 76 degrees and its 40 gallons

I think 3-4 pellets 2 times a day should be fine. You shouldn’t follow that rule. It’s not very accurate.

It is impossible for us to say. I don't know how large the fish are or how large the pellets are. And even if I did...
I can give you a few tips. =

I would feed a very small amount of food for about 60 seconds and observe.
Soak pellets in a shot glass "or something" filled with their tank water for a full minute or 2 before feeding.
Feed a variety of foods, not just a single brand, consider new life spectra goldfish food, a cucumber slice once a week. Blood worms once a month.

Can I keep some platies with the goldfish? (I don’t have the goldfish yet) I have some detritus worms I need to get rid of and I heard platies eat them. So I was thinking of getting variatus platies since they go in colder water and will eat them. But I don’t want to just get rid of them when I get the goldfish, so will they be a compatible tankmate?
