Does ammonia produce? I'm just wanting to know how ammonia breaks down, for my own knowledge. Not having any issues but would just like to know what say 1ppm ammonia would translate to on the other end.
The max amount of nitrates that are safe in a tank is around 3ppm imoDoes ammonia produce? I'm just wanting to know how ammonia breaks down, for my own knowledge. Not having any issues but would just like to know what say 1ppm ammonia would translate to on the other end.
Yeah he did. I must have clicked on skip to last reply or something and just saw the other post talking about max nitrates. This is what I wanted, thanks guys and sorry for the confusion.jacob thompson answered your question: The ratio of molar masses for ammonia : nitrite : nitrate is 1 : 2.7 : 3.64. 1 ppm ammonia is oxidised into 2.7 ppm nitrite, which in turn is oxidised into 3.64 ppm nitrate.
So the oxidation of 1 ppm ammonia will result in 3.64 ppm nitrate.
This is not to say that, if your test indicates 10 ppm ammonia at the beginning, at the end of the week your test will read 36.4 ppm nitrate.
Some ammonia/nitrate can be taken up as a source of nitrogen by plants. In addition, nitrite/nitrate can also be reduced to nitrogen gas by denitrifying bacteria (Pseudomonas, Alcaligenes, Vibrioi) which populates most aquariums in small amounts.
Is that a typo? The max amount of nitrates that are safe in a tank is around 3ppm imo
Either that, or I better start daily 80 percent changes! Is that a typo?
