How Much Do I Feed My Dwarf Gourami???

So I just recently bought a Dwarf Gourami (male) from a petstore... He's pretty big! I have in in a 15 gallon tank (alone) with LOADS of plants that he LOVES to eat. But how many flakes should I give him??? I don't know how many I should put in the tank. I have TetraColor Tropical Fish Flakes

Picture this... Look at your thumb. Say each flake is the size of your thumbnail (without the white tip on the top.... Just the pink part of your nail). How many flakes that size would you feed to a Male Dwarf Gourami (abt 1.5-2 inches in length)?

And yes, I know I rub the flakes between my fingers before I buy them in the tank so he can eat it.

WELCOME to Fishlore!!!

As much he can in 30 seconds . Personally I crush all the flakes which makes it easier for tropical fish

I'd give him 1-2 flakes once or twice a day.

So like 2 flakes? 3? (And thank you! This app/website is really good, especially for me since I'm a beginner!)

A fish's stomach is roughly the size of their eye...so it is going to depend on how many needed to be roughly that same amount

His eye is a tad smaller than the circle top of a pencil eraser, or abt the same size of the black pupil of my eye when I shine a light on it... So only one flake?

flakes are thin, when you crush them up they get much smaller, you want it to be roughly the same size (when crushed) as his eye or the top of a pencil eraser.

I think that would be about 2-3 flakes then... That's not too much, right? I'm not going to over feed him? He won't get cottonmouth or anything if I give him that much everyday?

(Sorry Ik I'm probably annoying w/ all these questions I just want him to be healthy)

lol, it's ok...cotton mouth wouldn't be from over feeding (I don't think)...if it is, it would be indirectly related or something. It shouldn't be too much. I would fast him for a day each week.

You know about the nitrogen cycle and all that? We all want your fish to be healthy too. Oh yeah, welcome to fishlore!

Yeah I actually learned about the nitrogen cycle a few months ago in one of the electives I took in school, and after my teacher talked about it I became super interested in it, which inspired me to get my first fish. Thank you for all your help & kind words - you definitely saved me from all the worrying I would have done tonight over how much I was feeding him! (I was only feeding him about 2 flakes for the past few days & had no idea that I should fast him once every week, but at least I wasn't over feeding him!) Anyways, Thank you so much! Have a wonderful day (or night, depending on where you live).
