I sold my fish unfortunately because we were getting mold so i am having to take my 30 and 10 down. keeping the 55. anyway i am going to start with new fish but how much ammonia so my tank stays cycled?

and how long does the bacteria stay alive without a source?

I've had a fishless tank with the filter turned off (media wet) for 5 weeks and not lost the cycle.

I routinely leave my quarantine tanks fishless for weeks at a time.

Were you getting mold from the tanks. I would recommend a dehumidifier if so

I have glass tops on my tanks and the humidity in my apartment is very low - 35 to 38%. Eliminating evaporation goes a long way to keeping the humidity down.

Good quality water resistant paint will keep the mold in check. We used Behr Premium Plus Interior/Exterior paint in our moldy bathroom. We scraped the mold off and painted over it. It never grew again being starved of moisture.
