some people it seems just use one pot of fish food everyday, yet it seems others give their fish a variety of diff flakes, spirulina, dried bloodworms, algae wafers etc. so in your stock of fish food, how many pots do you have. i'm not including any live food as that is not generally "stored", but bought and used at once.

just interested to see how other people look after their fish!

"carrots"?! which fish eat those? I always have loads of carrots in the fridge! cucumber doesn't keep long, so they get some for a few days then none til the end of the week when I next go shopping. I was giving the cucumber for the plec and loach, but it seemed all the fish enjoyed it! i've heard brocollI can be given to plecs....but which bit...the stalk (save throwing them away) or the bit we eat..the tops?

I currently only give flakes and algae waffles (for bottom feeders). The waffles are a biiig success with all the fish, actually, not just the pleco. I'd love to give my mollies more varied food, but they all came down with something - likely parasite - after I fed them Tubifex worms. Shame, as they loved the stuff. Any advice on safe and varied food welcome!

Please avoid using Tubifex. My fish loved it, but it gave them parasites. I read later some warnings of people who'd had similar experiences. Am still paying for trying to give them a treat - they're not out of the woods yet.   :-\

Does anyone know how to send a private message? I'd like him to be warned about this and he may not read this thread again.

I believe you can send private messages when your posts reach 100. sgould is on regularly and will probably read your post.

Flakes, freeze-dried blood worms, shrimp pellets, spirulina pellets, and I'm currently trying some Mysis Shrimp from Omega One. My fish aren't too sure what to make of it, but I think that's because the pieces are a bit large. They will take 1 piece and suck on it and slowly eat it and then they don't eat anymore. They are high in fat as well as fiber, so they must be filling, but I think I'm gonna try and grind some into tiny pieces.

Oh and if you feed them the freeze-dried tubifex worms there is next to no chance of getting parasites (nothings impossible, but it's a MUCH smaller chance).

Thanks, Armadillo. I seem to recall reading of potential problems with tubifex as well. I think the risk depends on whether you are feeding live, frozen, or freeze dried...I don't recall for sure right now. I will be sure to research before actually getting any, IF I get any after checking them out more.

No probs. Mine were in the form of dried cubes. They simply devoured the stuff.

I keep flakes, color crisps, blood worms, brine shrimp, and I actually do keep live food of *oddly enough* mice, goldfish, guppies and other feeder fish.

The mice actually are a real treat for my Piranha. X3
