I have a friend that's getting rid of his fish and he has some silver dollars he wants to give to me. I was wondering how many need to be together, How to sex them and what ratios should they be in?

At least 5-6, same as all shoaling species. Ratio doesn't really matter. Sexed by the shape of the analfin.

They won't fight if too many males are together in a tank?

They may "argue" if the males get into breeding condition, but they don't really 'fight'. Males get into condition more easily than females so this may happen even with females there...

From my experience with silver dollars, I had around 3, which isn't ideal. However, I've they feel safer in bigger groups such as 5-6 and plenty of places to hide.
