How Many Fish Can I Put In A Freshly Cycled Tank?

My tank has finally been cycled. (Yay!) So Saturday I plan on getting my first batch of fish and I was wondering how many can/should I get?

I have a 55 gallon tank and I'veb een using pure ammonia to cycle it. I read that when your tank has been cycled you don't want to add too many nor too few fish as to neither overwhelm nor underfeed the bacteria. I was thinking about getting 10 emperor tetras and 6 amano shrimp to start but was wondering if that would be too few or too many?

Thanks!

How much ammonia is it able to process in 24 hours? That's the real determination of what you can add in one go

It can process 3-4 ppm of ammonia in 24 hours.

I guess add a few fish and monitor the parameters! If you added a few too many then just treat it like a cycle bump until the bacteria catch up

Fair enough! I just wanted to be careful as to not add too many while still adding as many as I can. Thanks!

If it helps, I stocked 3 tetras at 2 week intervals in my 20 gallon, which is half the size. I am now up at 9 and so far so good.

I think that stock should work, if they can process 3-4 ppm they'll catch up quickly if it is a little too much.
