How many suggested female betta can I have in a 30 gallon?

His many bettas are suggested to be part of sorority?

Everytime I go to petsmart I look at the betta and its horrible the fish are not swimming or moving at all. So I want to buy as many as I can so they can be free

We have a male betta and when he got his 10 gallon he was so happy.

EDIT: I read that you need to give 2 gallons to each female (5 fish for 10 g, 10 fish for 20 g, 15 fish for 30 g), introduce them at the same time, remove very aggressive fish.... When adding more females you should remove all fish, let new female swim around, then add the other females back in 1 at a time starting with least dominate.

Obviously it's a risky/complicated arrangement. If successful I would love to have 15 happy fish, but I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm misinformed. Because it sounds to good to be true lol. Can you imagine 15 beautifully happy bettas fluttering around the aquarium??

Please tell me your Sorority experience and advice.

Sororities require a lot of maintenence. One day all the sisters will love each other to pieces, and the next day they will be tearing each other to pieces.

Plan on rearranging your heavily planted tank on a regular basis. Also plan on keeping several net breeder boxes on hand to assist with time outs and introducing new fish.

I took mine down after two years because it was a hassle.

Btw, the info you mentioned is all pretty much often repeated as accurate.

When I'm not such a beginner I will attempt this. I saw a 30 gallon with 11 females and they seemed to coexist nicely.

I'm just wondering if petsmart will sell me 11 betta or can they refuse to sell that many? Since its best to introduce them at the same time.

I like the all red, all white, and all black ones. They are known for their beautiful colors lol and I choose solid colored fish. I'm excited just planning this! It will be a while because I have mollies that will be occupying the 30 gallon but when they pass I'm definitely considering the sorority.

I know want to rescue these fish, but I'd suggest ordering from a breeder. Actual sisters stand a somewhat better chance of getting along over the long haul.

Thank you I never thought of that!

Hmm well you can put 8-10 female Betta's in a 30 gallon and be safe. Have LOTS of hiding places. Btw I am going to have a sorority in my 40 gallon breeder tomorrow, so I will add pics and stuff. We can get through this together! It just depends on the betas anyway

I've read they do best in odd numbers.

Do you have colors in mind or just random pretty multI colored ones?

Ohhh that's a good idea too. Easier to tell them all apart lol. I know which tail I like but unsure of the name. Ill Google it real quick

Yea I like veil tailed the best.

Although crown tail looks neat too! I think ill get those 2 as well.

Solid red, white, black.

Maybe ill do 3 of each of those colors to equal 9, odd number and understocked. Will leave more roaming space for the betta and I could add a few mystery snails still

I am too. What did I say that makes you say that? I'm pretty sure the photo showed males but I was the first photo that popped up when I googled betta tail types.

My roommate has a 20G sorority tank, it's been set up for about two months and all of the girls get along great!

There was naturally some nipping as they figured out hierarchy among themselves but it has been minimal and there aren't torn up fins or any deaths. However my roommate didn't look into female to male aggression and put in a single male betta whose fins were absolutely ripped to PIECES and was almost killed by them.

All the girls were introduced within a few days of one another so no fish 'claimed' the tank. Almost all of them were from petsmart / our LFS - lots of different colours and types, they're really gorgeous all together. There is also a variety of some fake some real plants, a floating log, and a big bushel of "grass" looking fake plant that help with providing hiding places for the females.

I plan to moderately plant the tank.

Thanks for telling me, I assumed 1 male would be desired for mating but I guess these fish aren't interested!!! Note taken!
