so I was thinking of 5-7 corys for my 20 gallon high tank ( either albino, panda or skunk )

does that sound over stocked? there is a driftwood that acts like a cave, and a 10inch that splits in the middle and about to add another driftwood if I can find the one I want, so there will be lots of hiding places =]

I personally wouldn't keep corys in a 20H. 20L, yes but not a high. I think they need room to swim and forage, and a 20H just wouldn't provide that.

well its a 24inch long tank, most cories get around 3inches, so I am pretty sure there will be more than enough room for it to swim around on

yes, I was planning to make the centerpiece of the tank a betta, I really want a school of cories though, they are so peaceful and fun to watch and think they will complement the betta

I just feel so bad for 90% of all the bettas out there in a LFS, so sad to see them, so I am pretty dead set on a male betta

Good choice on the betta! He will love a 20G... and he will show it!

As for the cories, they will have lots of room the swim around on the bottom, but what Jaysee is talking about is them drowning (ironic really!). Cories will zip up to the top for air, and a 20G high might be hard if you have a weak cory. The stocking, bioload wise if fine, though. 6 would be nice!

Oh, and don't get the emerald cories... they gtrow to 6 inches and are not a 'true' cory.

wait what cories will drown even with a air pump O___O I know bettas need above surface air, but cories too !!!

Corys won't drown. They don't need to breath air from the surface. But a 20 gallon high won't provide a whole lot of room for a group of them at the bottom of the tank.

mhmmmm I see okay, I was also thinking about a clown pleco, my LFS has a couple of them and I was thinking of them as my 2nd choice, you think that's wise? just 1 for a 20 gallon

sorry I know this aint the pleco section T______T

I disagree, obviously I think a 30 inch tank is a minimum. A 20 gallon tank is a small tank.

I wasn't talking about drowning - I don't think there's a large enough footprint.

But yes, DON'T get emerald corys.

Yup. I've kept several species. I've kept them in small tanks. I'm not saying you can't get them, I'm just saying that I like my fish to have room to swim around, and find them more active and interesting when kept in a larger tank.
