How many betta fish in a 20 long sorority it too many?

hello, I have been keeping sororities for 6ish months now and I wanted to know if I add 2 more bettas that I currently own in a divided tank to my 7 girl sorority if that would be too much? i do have some corys in the tank and all the betta get along with each other. if i can get some input i would really appreciate it.

 

I would leave it as it is. The female bettas in the sorority might not accept the newcomers, and it can become really violent if they don’t.

 

My thoughts are if its good now, to just leave well enough alone. But i am also not the one taking care of things!

Betta sororities are super fragile. If one betta doesn’t like the newcomers and becomes aggressive, or if one of the newcomers is already aggressive, the whole thing can collapse. They could all snap and start trying to kill each other. If it’s working now, best to leave it that way.

 

Definitely give you kudos to having what sounds like a successful sorority, though! From what i have read, doesn't sound necessarily like an easy task and probably too much stress for my liking! Definitely a challenge i am not willing to accept anytime soon.

 

I have 5 girls ( 1 elephant ear ( alpha), 2 crown tail, 1 veil tail , 1 koi) in my 20 long with 7 cory cats and a few snails.
*if I recall correctly, I added them into a sorority June/July 2019*


As the bettas mature, get larger physically & territorial ( breeding behavior) , 5 is the max I'll keep in that size tank.

my 2nd superiority tank 10 gallon is all baby female bettas, 5 as well. But I will move them into my 20 Tall after holidays. alpha female is the koi in this tank.
