I rest my case. It took like a week to get one answer. Aaaah, to grow up in a small country...

Thanks, Neville! And another thread reminded me of this: Catherine Hepburn. I think she was born in Belgium of something. Oh, and Tintin!

Wow, easy there! I only live in the Netherlands, but am not from there. Moved there 5 yrs ago from the UK. Before that, I lived in Belgium (til I was 17) and in the UK (till I was 27), and moved to The Netherlands 5 yrs ago. Trying to get out ever since!

Kind of like Garfield? Any good Tintin websites to find out about him?

Good one on the Belgian dogs. That's one I never thought about for the eternal 'name something belgian' game. They basically do 4 breeds, and all 4 are sheperds, and all 4 are really really really intelligent. I particularly like the Groenendael and Tervuren ones. They have the same shape, but long hair. A little bit that English sheepdog look.

Oh yeah, you're right about the hare. I remember now. We call it the Flemish giant and it's ginormous! I'd love to have one at home. It's bigger than a Jack Russell!

Nope, not British. Grew up in Belgium from French/Belgian parents, then moved to the UK at 17, stayed for 10 yrs then moved to The Netherlands. Sooo complicated.

I'm so glad I was sitting down when I read that.....but the "I'm from Texas" part should have warned me.

K's Choice, Hooverphonic, Front 242, godiva, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they also invented the godlike delicacy we know as french fries.

It's wee though. I mean, you could fit it into texas and have room left over for nevada!!

Wow! How do you know so much about it? I should hire you as a special state envoy to promote the country. It's tiny, but no more than The Netherlands and that sort of countries.

I don't kow K's choice. I am so impressed you know Front 242. I don't even know what they sound like. I really like a couple of songs by Hooverphonics and I'd highly recommend one you didnt' name: Absynthe Minded. They are simply fabulous.

I am very very well traveled. K's choice is excellent- their frontwoman has a very eerie voice, and they got quite a lot of radio play some years back with the single, "not an addict". And yes - front 242 has been a staple in my library forever!

I will look up some Absynthe minded tonight - I'm always on the hunt for a new great sounds.

I agree about the size - it not ALWAYS important. I think people from the states are surprised at how small a lot of European countries are. I'm in California - here you could drive all day and not leave the state - in Europe you can cross several COUNTRIES in a day - it's a different world.

Yeah, totally a different world. And for some reason, people really think Belgium is tiny when there's way tinier places. People also obsess about the 3 language thing, like there's no multilinguism in Canada or Switzerland and even the UK. Strange. It's one of those constantly misunderstood places.

Yeah, you guys are also having a hard time at the moment, that's true. It seems to be really fashionable at the moment to just slag off Americans for... being American. I have founded an expat club in Holland and we have a lot of Americans in it. Some members are being so mean to them behind their backs for the simple reason that they're American. Not clever.

yea, our idiot leaders and their moronic domestic and foreign policies have done nothing for the US internationally or for the citizens living in this country and don't really reflect the will of the people.. The US really is a 2-language country now.

english and spanish.. the US has been flooded with some legal and MANY illegal mexicans since our last 2 presidents (both total idiots) threw the doors to the border open and now the US citizens are often taking a backseat to people who aren't US citizens and don't speak english.
