How long will BB last without ammonia?

I am getting my first group of fish tomorrow, I've had the media for my new 29 gallon in the filter for my 60 gallon for a week now. I was going to put the media in the 29 tonight but should I wait until the second I put the fish in?

From what I have found, it only takes a few days for the BB to start dying. I could be wrong about this though. You would probably be fine putting it in tonight but if it were me, I would wait until a little before you put the fish in.

I think it depends on how long/how much is colonized, water temps, etc. I have had power out for 6 days with no ill effects. I just made sure the pad was completely wet in the tank water.
I don't think they die off in a matter of hours but more like a few days at best.

So if I put it in before I leave to get the fish I should be fine?

Yes you will be fine.

Also, I want to point out that the canister filter I bought from someone (which was set up for a long while, I believe) I didnt set up for like a month after I got it. I had an "instant cycle".
In conclusion, due to my experience, I believe how long the BB has been established has a lot to do with it.

But a few hours, you'll be fine, no doubt
