How Long Until Water Settles After Moving A Tank?

so... I moved my 10 gallon downstairs yesterday, with about 1/3 of the water in it (Rainbow was scooped into the fish water jug for the move). Unsurprisingly, that stirred up guck from the gravel.

I do gravel vacuum.

Levels were ammo between 0 and 0.25, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate both before and after the move. I added clean treated water and then did a 50% change again today with water and gravel vac (same numbers).

I can still see the guck floating around and his tank looks cloudy.

1) how dangerous is it for my Betta?

2) how long until it settles?

3) any tips to fix it?

Well if you can see stuff floating you need to vacuum and water change again....

Could you post a pic? Do you have any mechanical filtration?

It isn't dangerous to your betta. the only danger would have been the pockets of junk throwing toxins into the water, but obviously that didnt happen.
Water changes are probably the quickest fix, but your filter should take care of it in a few hours assuming its just particles floating around.

I would take your net and try to scoop as much visible "gunk" you see out then do another 50% WC and gravel vac. Add a double dose of Prime and retest tomorrow and see where you are at that point.

I can’t post a regular pic right now because the glare from the windows is too much. Here is yesterday:

It’s about the same as yesterday. Not so much overall cloudy when I look at it, but up close, there are little bits of crud all in the water.

I have an aqueon QuietFlow with a sponge over the intake, a fluval fine filter pad, floss cartridge (no carbon), and a couple coarse sponges to baffle the outflow current.

Should I take off the intake sponge?

I tried; it’s really small gunk. I did a 5x Prime dose yesterday just in case, and regular dose today with the water change.

It takes roughly twelve hours to a day for my water to regain full clarity after a rescape, but I use filter floss to help strain out small particles.

And if you have one you could always add a prefilter sponge. Just be sure to put a net under it when you pull it off the filter or you'll be back to square 1

Do you mean something that’s different from the cylindrical one I have over the intake pipe?

Ok, I’ll gently get it out and swish it tomorrow.

Just remember to always swish things from your filters in a bucket of tank water to avoid any mini-cycles or spikes.

Yup.

Our tap after doesn’t have chlorine or chloramine, but I do it in the bucket anyway.

It wasn’t really a rescape, it was more of it getting swished all over the place en route down the stairs. My husband wanted to do it without my help, so it got tilted to and fro.

It'll settle in no time and everything will look great!
