I’ve got a colony of around 40 red cherry shrimp, today i gave them a piece of cauliflower, i also feed them shrimp pellets but i feed them different veggies from time to time. How long should i keep these pieces in the tank? I don’t give them big pieces generally so they are gone the next day but if i gave them a bigger piece would it be okay and will they not overeat?

Just a couple days. If they start to get fuzzy and stink like they are rotting, which happens in a few days, take them out.

Hi LoachKing1

Leave vegetables in the tank slightly less time than it takes for each kind of vegetable to begin to fall apart.
Shrimp graze continuously and will not overeat when food is available 24/7.
Carrot lasts slightly longer than zucchini.

Depending on water temperature I find zucchini lasts 24 hours maximum. I remove it in under 24 hours as it falls apart after one day and is a mess to vacuum away. Carrot lasts longer .

When I use broccoli I find it begins to stink out the fishroom when it’s in warm water. To avoid the risk of upsetting housemates remove anything overnight might be the way to keep the peace?

I always boil veggies soft enough such that they are gone pretty quickly, usually a few hours. I also follow up with a water change. This is only for breeding tanks.

For regular shrimp tanks I dont feed at all

12 to 24 hours is pretty much how long i keep veggies in, if they don't get ate.

I only put small pieces and never concern myself with anything that may be left over.
