How Long Till Red Cherry Shrimp Start Reproducing?

The tank will be a nine gallon, I will have ten shrimp. The water is at room temperature 65-80. At the store the shrimp are maybe a half an inch. My question is how long does it take for them to grow and reproduce. How many shrimplets will they have?

Aqua Hands said they didn't start super soon on my post but I don't have an answer other than that

Hmmm. Thanks. Anyone else have an estimate? And how many shrimplets will they have the first time? How quickly will they grow?

From birth to sexual maturity is about 2 months. This can vary with temperature, the higher the tank temp the faster the growth (but the shorter the lifespan of the shrimp). I find my shrimp berry for 21 days before releasing the shrimplets. Each female has about 20-30 shrimplets, but not all of these will survive. I would say I have about 15 additional shrimp each time a female has shrimplets.

I believe 2-3 months is average for them to get settled into new tank conditions. It takes them a while to feed comfortable enough to reproduce.

Mine took around a month and a half

Thanks. Will the lower temp. slow down the breeding, I know it slows down the growing.

Ok, mine will be at 65(the lowest) will it slow down their breeding or affected the shrimplets?

I agree with Mazeus with a very slight difference to my tanks, remember not all tanks will do the same
I keep all my shrimp tanks at 72 you can increase to 75 which will make the shrimp breed quicker but their lifespan will be reduced and when they only live for a max of two years you won't have them very long, they will start to breed at around 10 weeks or a little less and can loose most of the first batch of eggs due to in experience by the mother but within a month they will moult again and as soon as they moult they will breed within minutes, it then takes 30 ish days for the young to hatch, again its all down to your tank setup. iv added a photo I took just 5 minutes ago, this is one of my tanks, I cleared about 100 shrimp out of here two days ago, you can easily get your tank to this stage, the key as I always say to new shrimp keepers is constancy, once you've got the tank where you want it keep it that way
zoom into the photo to see young shrimp.

Is inbreeding an issue eventually? If so, how often should I add a new shrimp?

The only issue is you'll find some of the young will start to throw back to wild brown, how long this takes I don't know all I know at the moment I've had a mixed tank for two years and not many brown so far, remember shrimp only live two years if they lucky, if you keep culling any brown before they breed you will reduce the ammount of brown, but if brown start to breed with each other then the chances are you'll have all brown young

Yes that's fine just keep an eye on what's happening and move them, give them six weeks Just to be sure on the colours but you wount have a problem, I don't think you'll be moving tons, and some of the colours you'll get will look good anyway,

Its recommended to bring in fresh genetics (QT first) every year to year in a half

That's pushing towards the end of life but I take it fresh blood will slow down the brown reproduction

If I start with ten how many should I get the next year

If your like me you'll end up buying more before that, and from RTESSY is saying you may start to see colour changes so you know it's time, you've got some good guide lines to go on now, don't forget to drip the shrimp.

Keep us posted on how things are going with a few pictures, did I see you were asking about filters, most of us use sponge filters for shrimp, and I back my tanks up with a fluval 306. Two double sponge filters will do the job if you don't end up making your own there are lots of good ideas on YouTube, be mindful of the size of baby shrimp if you make your own,ide hate to see you loose them because of the filter

it takes about three or four months for a colony to get started .

Hi,
They will start reproducing at 1.0-1.3cm.
It depends on the water quality, one can carry from 20 - 60 babies

Your temperature is fine. Just keep them consistent and low decaying/rotting matters, they should reproduce soon.

You can start seeing female having Saddle on her back first before getting berried !

Keep us posted
