I think my plants might be doing poorly because they get too much light. How long should my lights be on? I have jungle val, melon swords and Java fern.

How long do you usually leave the lights on? Melon swords and jungle Val are heavy root feeders, did you add any root tabs?

What kind of light, and how long do you leave it on for now?

Current USA Freshwater LED+. I leave it on for 12 hours. I just added root tabs for the first time on Sunday. I didn't realize previously that they might need them.

That might be the case. They are heavy root feeders so the root tabs should help. How is the java Fern doing? They are water column feeders

The javas are actually good. I have 3 tied down to some driftwood. I sure hope the others survive. They've been in there about 2 and a half weeks. Should I change the length of light time?

Okay that's good. Yes the problem with the other plants was that they didn't have any root tabs. They should get better in a few days. The light period is fine. I leave the lights on my planted tanks for 12 hours also.
