How long should I cycle my tank for? Some people say a month, some say 2 weeks. Idk! And what fish will do good in this 10 gallon tank?

The first thing I would do is read what the Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle is. Then you will understand more of how long it may take. ;)

Ok I know how long it takes now. A month. So, when do I put fish in?

It depends if you are doing fish-in or fishless cycle?
Oh, I would do a fish out cycle. I don’t want to harm any fish!

So you will have to feed it ammonia of some kind. Do you have ideas of what you are going to use?

Yeah I’m thinking about using dr Tim’s.

It seems like people have good luck with that on here. Just remember to be patient and re-dose your ammonia when it goes to zero. Dose it to 2ppm. 4ppm will be more than needed for a 10g. You have a test kit?

Yes I do have a test kit. I tested it and it’s already at 0.25 ppm

Is that just from your tap water? I would test all of them on your tap water too. See what you are starting with. Test pH directly out of the tap then sit a glass out for 24 hours and read it again. This will give you a idea what your tank pH will be.

Yeah I tested it 2 days after I used the water conditioner. Here are the results of everything

ammonia: 0.25
PH:7.6
Nitrite: 0.25
Nitrate: 5.0

Actually...it is not possible to know how long it will take, since it's a biological process that takes as long as it takes. If you are cycling fishless and using Dr Tim's ammonia and not using a bottled bacteria additive it will usually take somewhere between 6-8 weeks.

If you use Dr. Tims ammonia and a bottle bacteria additive such as Dr Tin's One & Only or Tetra SafeStart+ it should take 2 weeks. (Generally if the tank isn't cycled within 14 days, the bottled bacteria didn't work).

Best of luck!
