I had a couple of Goldfish in a bowl when I was a kid, and got my first tropical tank when I was 12. I've kept fish since then, other than a 4 year break when I was in the armed forces.

I won my first fish at a state fair when I was in middle school - but started seriously keeping fish when I was about 15 - and haven't stopped since - I remember keeping little film canisters of baking soda in my room for raising the PH as we had very soft well water on the farm. So that makes it just over 20 years now!

Good morning,

Something to consider, maybe you could add an option for "Over 25 years". I wasn't able to cast a vote since there isn't a category for my answer.

I started fish keeping in 1968. So, 42 years for me.

I started at the age of 7 at freshwater which was in 1974 stayed with fresh till 1986 that's when I started saltwater reefs and fish only tanks and back then it was very diffucult to have a salt tank I choose the Berlin method and stopped using under gravel filters that never really worked. Wow time flies when your having fun!!!!!!

I (re)started new in June 2010 with a fishless cycle, added the first batch of tropical fish in July.

I've kept goldfish a few times since I was 6. Nothing lasted long. I didn't know what I was doing. But if combine the time I kept fish together, it might be close to 1 year.

3 years for me. Got the tank in 2007, killed a bunch of fish (RIP), and then Fishlore happened. 'Nuff said.

I've been serious about the hobby for the last 3 years, but always had tanks growing up. I also had a pond for a few years. I consider all those years count for 3 years of real experience. So I voted 5-10.

Ponds are awesome! I wish I had room in my back yard for one. They take a lot of maintenance I hear though.

I haven't a clue when I started, so I put down 1-5 as the most likely ball-park.
