How long does it take for a Gold Gourami to trust you?

Today I got some new fish for my 29 gallon aquarium. One of those fish was a Gold Gourami. I've heard great things about this fish, namely that they eventually become very trusting of their owners. How long does it usually take for them to start trusting you?

It depends on how much time you spend near the tank

Well, my computer is right next to it, so I would say I spend a good chunk of time near it.

Try hand feeding your gourami, well not really hand feeding. I use an eye dropper to feed blood worms to my fish and they come right up to the eye dropper to grab the worms. Every time they see me, they would associate me with food (that is what I think, can be totally wrong on this).

It took my GBR a week to get use to me. Now, she greets me every time I get near the tank.

Right now I can see my Gourami cautiously observing me at my desk, but whenever I turn to look at her she creeps back into the tank corner.

itll be awhile. These guys get aggressive with age. Its not so much that they "trust" you. They just get a confidence boost. Normally id say no less then 30gals for one of these guys because they do become top of the tank and have territory demands. BUT just be careful. Avoid stocking other gourami or bettas or such, and you should have a much calmer fish. Hand feeding worked wonders on my bettas and DG. They both take from the hand. AND, are both very easy to handle by consequence. Though, I only handle my fish when needed(switching tanks or such). Dont push it, it will take time. Feeding the tank while your typing is a good idea. Just put the food on the side closest to you. Once you can get her to eat without fear of you then your on your way.

So, for the most part, I should just scrap the idea of getting a Honey Gourami too, right?

Yeah.

The golds(3-spots) seem nice and all, and really, they are BUT they do NOT like others like them. You would more then likely find that the honey sucks at self defense.

Oh well, I think I'll like this one just as much as a honey. Today she discovered the bubble wall, she likes to play in it when I'm not in the room.

I have had gold gouramis and honeys and I think that you will really love the golden. They have so much personality

My Gold Gourami is doing pretty well, it's been two days now and she's not very scared of me anymore. She's eating pretty well and very curious. I haven't seen any aggression from her actually, but I take it that'll come as she gets older.

Like I said, they are pretty chill when they are alone like her. There is no reason for her to be aggressive, there arnt any other gourami in the tank
