first time having shrimp. i think i have 8 of them, had ten but i was stupid in transitioning them and lost 2. since they hide i cant really tell how many i have in my qt tank. anyway today counts one week and they all look fine , eating healthy grabbing their ciclid pellets etc. i think in the past ive qt my fish for like a month. except for the SAE as i mentioned in another post where i derped and put him in the wrong tank (my main tank) he's doing fine btw. but yeah so should i stick with a month with the amano shrimp in their 10gl qt??

Do you have any invertebrates in the main tank? If so: Yes, 4 weeks. If not: Should they be still fine after week 2 you could risk it. Shrimp can't introduce fish pathogens.

i do not. just tetras, cory and sae. you say "risk it" sounds like 4 weeks either way is the way to go. am i right?

also its been a while since i got a new anything and i forget some things. should i change the qt water during?. similar to my weekly WC. i also have been ph acclimating my qt tank every now and then with like 2 turkey basters full from my main tank, which i had never done before but read it was probably something i should have been doing from the beginning

Thing is, as soon as they are in the main tank you can neither monitor their status anymore, nor could you treat anything. But as you can't do harm to anything living in the tank with moving them you can simply risk it.

i think im just going to sit it out. i was just curious about the time frame. i should probably look up things i should be looking out for with shrimp as im only used to seeing if fish are doing something weird or not

a. that's for fish, not for shrimp. So yes, what do you want with it?
b. look here on the forum, the co-op trio is infamous for whiping out fish in quarantine quite often. (Besides there is at least one med in the trio that is not invertebrate safe!)
c. preemptive medication is only advisable if you got bad stock and you know it and have to sell the animals in question and make a certain profit margin. For a private fishkeeper who's just stocking a singular tank this is risky overkill. Only medicate in quarantine when something shows up.
