Ok, so... I'm not actually sure?

Me being a beginner, when I got my first tank I was young and had no experience. No clue what I was doing. I got my 10g, set it up, and my put fish in the NEXT DAY. Needless to say they all died within 3 days.

I let the tank cycle by itself for a few weeks before putting in 2 fish. Then 2 more, and then 2 more 'till I reached my grand total of 6.

Now I have a (for the most part) happy and healthy tank and my female gold dust molly is expecting her first batch of fry!

I honestly have no idea what I did, but it worked.

It really only took me a week to cycle my 29 gallon as I transferred the filter media along with all the fish from my 20 high. People will disagree with me but I tested the water daily and everything went straight to nitrates.

I failed as a beginner, didn't cycle the tank and all if my fish died. I cycle my tanks now, but I was clueless back then
So did I, but a couple of my fish lived. Bad beginner mistakes.
