After your first tank, how long did it take before you started to think about a second tank?

What were your reason?
what size did you get?

Was the second tank a planted tank, quarantine tank, marine, breeding etc etc?

It took a week! Lol After initially getting a 10 gallon and realizing how limiting my stocking options are, I upgraded to a 46g and now use the 10 gallon as a QT.

I think it was a few weeks. I'd purchased my first tank (8g) after many years and many failures but got it secondhand. Came with everything as a plant-only tank and a couple of RCS somewhere in there as cleanup crew. I still didn't know why my tanks always failed so I thought that buying an established tank would set me on the right track. Plus there were no fish to worry about. Then I fell in love with a Betta and brought him home. Then nearly killed him when I changed the filter media! Having learned my first lesson I then felt sorry for a poor, unwanted Betta so I had to set up a second, a 5 gallon tank. Then I tried to buy some plants from someone on the local classifieds and she said she only had one left, but I could have it if I took the Betta, too. Fish number 3! And another 5 gallon tank.

And thus was mts assured

I started off with something small, then kept upgrading but always getting rid of the old smaller tank.

But when my fish started breeding and the babies kept getting eaten I setup a tiny fry tank, when the fry grew big enough I was going to empty it then thought "Shrimp tank" and then thought "No betta tank!"

All in all it was probably a year or so I set that little tank up.

Sadly it isn't mine any more, sold it to make room for my snakes vivarium..

I did the same thing after 2 months, except I picked up a 20 gallon long. It's quite tempting to stock it as another aquarium at the moment.

I have had my tank for 6 months and I was thinking about a second tank about a week after I got the first one.

I have no space though.

I do wish I would have bought a bigger tank. I got a 20 long and if I could do it again I would have bought a 40 or 60 gallon instead.

I started with a 5 gallon and upgraded to a 20 gallon in something like, 5 days when I discovered my platies and pleco weren't going to do well in a 5g. Made the 5 gallon a platy fry tank.....I then upgraded the 20 to a 40 breeder about 2 months later, the 20 gallon became my qt, 5 gallon still fry tank. Then I had a ton of fry so they got a 10 gallon and eventually another 20g, got a betta for the 5. Had mystery snail babies in the 20 gallon fry tank so it's now been upgraded to a 55g. Both 20 gallon are now platy, guppy, mystery snail grow out tanks, the betta is in the 10 and the 5 has ramshorn, and the 40 is my community/mystery snail tank. Sigh.

I waited probably two months. My first was a 20 gallon high which is pretty standard. Even before buying it I knew I wanted a 20-30g long or similar so I could start aquascaping some ideas I'd been having. Something hardscaped with live plants, beautiful and difficult. It wasn't until I walked into a pet store and they had a deal on all their aquariums ($1 per gallon) that I found one I liked and picked it up. With that I ordered a finnex +24/7 and started scaping and growing a Dwarf Hair Gras carpet and adding Seiryu Stones to achieve my vision.

About 3 months - I'd started with a 10 gallon, then learned the fish I had in it needed something bigger.

I started with small ~110 gallon outdoor goldfish pond then after about month got small ~2.5 gallon tank from cousion and put 4 guppies in it. Unfortunately all died but have ~10 fry in it. Got some plants from local river/canal. Liked look of planted tanks so got few more plants from someone. Didn't had place for them and was losing patience for more fish so last weekend bought another 20 gallon tank
