How Good Are Ghost Shrimp At Eating Algae?

So I currently have 2 Nerite snails, 9 Neon Tetras, 4 (female) Betta fish in a 30 gallon. I have an algae problem, it's not too bad but is still annoying, so I got the snails a few days ago and they haven't done much yet, so are Ghost Shrimp good algae eaters?

Not good at all. They will pick at it but they definitely aren't going to devour it. I have heard nerite snails are the best but I haven't had any so I can't vouch for it myself.

Oh okay, thanks! I heard they ate lagae but not to what extent. I'll probably just get a couple more Nerite's

I would try to figure out what's causing your algae so you can prevent it, rather than adding snails and shrimp as a band aid.

What kind of algae is it? How long do you leave your lights on?

It's green algae, I try to only leave the lights on for 9 hours a day, but I do have the blue light on during the night and times the white one isn't on..

I would decrease your lighting to 6 hours, increase water changes, and decrease the blue lighting as well.

okay, I'm probably just going to turn the light completely off when the normal one is off, over the weekend I'm going to be changing the substrate to eco complete even though I only have plastic plants, and I'm going to scrub the plants and the walls and do a water change. Hopefully it won't be too much for the fish to handle, but they are really hardy.

Why are you changing to Ecocomplete if you have plastic plants? And you only need the light on for a few hours then, if you don't have live plants. Try to keep the lights on for less than 6 hours total (total for both blue and white - you really don't need to the blue lights).

They're definitely not algae eaters. Amano shrimp are much better.

+1 on amano shrimp and nerites, I have never gave mystery snails a go, are they any good at cleaning up?

No, mystery snails are not good at removing algae.
