How Frequent Is Blue Crayfish Mating Behavior?

So I walked in on them yesterday and at first was like cool they’re mating. Second time this morning now and as my tank is in the living room I can’t help but to think how unsightly it may be for guests to see heh.

Anyway, once crayfish start mating does this behavior eventually stop before starting again?

Here’s a picture in all their glory:

Zero info on the net. My guess is that they should be finished soon. Is the bottom cray moving at all? It looked to me as if the top one was eating the one below when I first saw the picture..

Yeah they’re both fine and doing their own thing now. At first I thought they were fighting also but after looking into it more, this is apparently their mating ‘form’

If you see the one crayfish trying to hold the others claws that generally the sign mating is happening anytime I see tail grabbing or anything else I try to break it up. in two months when you have babies take the male out as he will likely kill them. the female will then produce a few more batches of eggs before the male needs to go back in the tank.

Noted thanks, trying to successfully raise the babies should be an interesting experience!

Quick update: I did not see them mating again the times I passed by my tank after the first couple times.

I did see the male and female share the same cave which I found interesting. Shortly after I removed the male since I was going to stop by the LFS anyway where I donated him. If the female ends up berried in the coming months I will consider a bigger tank!

Woohoo my crayfish is berried! I was wondering why she would never leave her cave and after looking in with a light I saw her moving the eggs! There’s a bunch!

Currently feeding algae wafer and bloodworms. I don’t really expect them to make it since I don’t have a breeder but if even a few make it I’ll be happy! Depends on if my serpae tetra will have an appetite for them or not. Also have another juvenile blue cray in there.

The babies seem to eat and then latch back onto the mother cray? I still have no idea exactly how many are in there.

Spotted a lone survivor in my filter! Possibly may be multiple but not sure. He must be eating algae and possibly my green onions? (Yes, I planted green onions in my filter and now they’re stuck lol)

Anyone know if I should take him out or leave him? I have 1 cichlid and 1 blue crayfish in there so kinda worried it’ll get eaten but also worried it’ll starve?

Released into main tank with plenty of hiding places and algae/plants to eat! I was afraid the survivor would end up getting stuck.

Other tank mates keep to themselves so I’m hoping it lives a full life!

Update:

My little one created an underground system and is now popping out more frequently. Probably because I drop a tiny piece of wafer in that spot everyday.

My filter baby and my other still growing blue crayfish side by side view: (These 2 are not related just to note)
