How Fast Bala Sharks Grow?

Hello today I purchased a balla shark (silver shark).
It's very young and just under 2 inches.
How long do they take to grow?
For example how big in a year?
Thanks
Jack

How many gallons in your tank?

You will need several more. If you don't have the space, take him back. Sorry

A little less than an inch a month, but if your aquarium is not large enough, its growth could be stunted, which also shortens their lifespan.

And my grandad kept one on its own for years.

I had bala sharks in my 40 gallon, they grow very big and very fast if you tank is the right size, I'd recommend a 125 gallon +. Return him and get fish more suitable for your aquarium like Gouramis for example!

50 gallons isn't really large enough for even one. They are extremely active and require at least 150 gallons. They also can be kept on their own, but will be somewhat stressed and not show their natural behaviour as they are schooling fish.

In only going to keep him till he gets to about 8" then my friend is having him in his 300 gallon.

Why can't you keep more than 1? Besides, a 50 gallon will stunt his growth. Why can't your friend take him now?

I would move him at 6 inches. That way, its large enough to not get eaten by the others, but small enough so it won't have a large enough chance to get stunted.

If you have a bala shark in your 50 that limits your stocking. Rather have many smaller fish than just 1 big one.

So how long will it be till I have to move him?

Would I be better with a few denison barbs instead?

It's a fish I don't think should be in captivity - they swim so long and far in nature, and in tanks, have nowhere to go.
I know, they are pretty.
