Hey.
I have this pregnant platy photos below, and before she gives birth I want to put her in a breeding tank so I can save the fry, but I was wondering from the photos how far along is she, she seems to have that square off look that they have just before they give birth, but I’m not sure.
thanks Jasper

I would say pretty close to 4-5 weeks, in that ballpark. Probably can move her anytime, see if being in a tank alone stresses her out more, first.

Add floating plants and you will be able to catch the fry from the main tank.

Moving pregnant females every month is not a long term solution. Catching fry every month will soon have you with more fry than you can raise.

Foating plants or any plastic rubbish including drinking straws. Netting out fry is a long term solution.

To answer your question.
She will have fry every 4 or 5 weeks.

Yeah thanks heaps, I wouldnt move every month just thought I would just once because they give birth all the time but so have I’ve only been able to catch one or two fry, just thought I would get a big batch this time.

Hi Jasper, how did you get on with this? Did you transfer platy and catch some fry?
I have similar stage pregnant sunset platy in breeding box so just wondering how you got on as i'm hoping to keep some fry from this first batch, then let nature take its course in subsequent pregnancies. Hoping I haven't transfered to breeding box too soon.
