How easy is it for you to decide which fish you want to put in your tank?

Today, there are so many different fish to choose from. So many shapes, colors, and patterns. So many prices. So many personalities. How easy or hard is it for you to choose between all of them?

 

I think it’s hard. Only because I have a habit of designing my tank before I find a fish. So I find a cool one and the aren’t compatible.

 

For me it’s hard. I usually design a tank after I’ve decided on the type of tank I want (cichlid, community, shrimp, etc.) but then it takes me awhile to decide on exactly what I want. I’ll usually narrow it down to three choices and then I’ll choose what’s easiest for me to get/which will do best in my set up.


For my 20 gallon I managed to narrow it down to a SW tank, a endler breeding tank with shrimp, or shellies. I ended up with shellies because I really wanted to breed them and I already had most of the hardscape I wanted for their tank.

 

I'm surprised. I thought more people would pick the 2nd and 3rd options.

That's easy because whenever you set up a new tank you just have to decide which type of guppy to get lol.

I can imagine that a novice doesn't know for sure which kind of fish he/she'd like to keep. Or there are too many to choose from. As an experienced aquarist, you're already beyond the phase of trying almost every kind of fish available. Mostly you already know what you don't want anymore. You're more focussed on certain species. The choice will be easier...
