A couple posters refer to their Colombian tetras as The Cartel, which is perfect.
Yes! That’s what it was. my harlequins are just “the gang”

I just named them for puns. My cardinal tetras were the Arizona Cardinals. I got 11 of them. I also got 10 rummynose tetras. I called them the streetfighters because the read head makes them look like they have a bloody nose.

WHY has no one suggest the Borg yet?! That’s awsome. I think I’m gonna call my shrimp that.

I give them all one collective name, and refer to them collectively. (They're not fish, but...) I had a colony of glass (terrestrial) snails and I called them all Squidgy. "I'm gonna go feed Squidgy now" *feeds 100+ tiny snails* it's quite entertaining

My son names all our fish, he's 8 and does a pretty good job.... But when dealing with my danios he calls them the ASTRO pack (CPDs) and the STRINGERS (zebra danios). He called the leopard danios the Fat Cats when I had them and refers to my sisters cardinal tetras as Tennis Shoes... But my endlers, he named quite specifically (they are a bit different) Poseidon, Ra, Flash, Slap and Duck lol we had a Jack too but Jack met the cat while in a bucket during a tank over haul and didn't pull through

I name my schooling fish the same thing, but with different spellings each time: Oscar, Ozcar, Oscr, Ozcr, and... Wander (he never stays with the group!) For the record, they are harlequin rasboras. I named them Oscar so they would feel big

I name the ones I can tell apart different. When I had neon tetras I had this one that was super fat and I assumed she was a female. I called her Tubs. The rest were just know as Tetra.

We named my parent’s Pomeranian Moose after that theory. He’s a fluffy little dog without his manhood, he needs all the help he can get.

I named my big one Shadow, tiny one Tiny Tim, others are Tetras.

I sometimes make up really specific names if someone asks. I start spouting off people names while pointing "Danny, john, sally, robert". But I really name some that I can tell apart "Percy, pongo, petie... and that weirdo Roger". Individuals get names like "Mr. Fish" or "Citizen Snips" bc they need a title.

I took the latin name and made up names using the letters available.
Oh yes and Calvin the Calvus.

I've got one of those wandering Rasboras as well.

The others stick together, but he goes over to watch the panda cories do their thing.

Our latest betta is named Sparky.
While we were looking at the bettas, this one guy was just going crazy in his cup and I said "settle down Sparky".
My wife said I had just named our new betta.

I honestly only consistently name my bettas. The other fish get graced with names if I happen to think of a perfect one while I'm watching the tank. But only one tank has anything other than bettas...

I'm sure if I sat down and photographed all of my fish I'd find differences in colour patterns of schooling fish but I don't care that much so I only name the individuals I can easily differentiate (as listed below, because I have time right now )

Mr. Gourami - Pearl Gourami (least creative)
Ingacio - Fantail Beta
PJ (Pale Jay) - Pale coloured Panda Cory
"The Little Guy" - smallest of the kuhlI loaches
Sherry - the big mamma neocaridina shrimp
