Live somewhere that doesn't allow fish tanks.

Keep applying new fish tanks until symptoms subside. In extreme cases, consult Doctors Foster & Smith.

I was at Pet Supplies Plus yesterday for the first time in years and saw that they were having a $/gallon sale of their own, but only like 15 gallon and up. If it was any size I'd have bought half a dozen 5 gallon tanks to make a shrimp breeding station.

You don't cure it. You may go through a stage where you think that you'll only go down to one or two tanks, but then something happens and suddenly you're back to 5. I mean, come on self! You're gonna have to move everything for renovations :hungover:

As with all illnesses, the secret lies not in the cure, but in prevention.
To answer your question, how to treat mts, you acknowledge that happy wife (or spouse, or SO) = happy life.

Let's take my situation as an example...
Her rule: "No more tanks upstairs". Period, foot down. Yay, I'm cured!!
Q(me): "What about a breeding project in the basement?"
A(her): "Fine" Okay so it's more like remission.

P.S. Aqua Hands I could watch the vids in your signature all. day.

I only have one tank... I wasn't intending on having a tank at all... now I am seriously thinking about converting an old computer into a small tank for keeping invertebrates...

Even with just the one tank I gave up my delicious kombucha strain because I had too much on my plate, haha... (keeping Kombucha healthy and tasty is almost as much work as keeping up with a small fish tank)

Here's a solution, go big really big no less then a 125. Piece the system together as you can afford and find the pieces and parts. Don't go to the Big Box stores and buy a package on a credit card, look at Craigslist and other local trading sites using cash available. So you would start out with maybe a tank and wood stand. The stand needs refinishing there's one project, refinish to fit in with your existing decor in the house. While your looking for the tank and stand also look for filtration that's more then adequate for the tank, once again check the used market first. Then wait for sales at the big box stores, and check eBay. I just bought a new Marineland Magnaflow 360 on eBay today for $73 including shipping. Then there's substrate, big tanks take a lot of it. If it's sand that's a lot of rinsing trust me. My point is instead of just buying all the pieces and parts at a one stop shop, bringing everything home, setting it up, and finally cycling the system. Make it a project and make it truly your tank. My new for me tank is up and running and partially stocked right now, I'll have it finished maybe by the end of the week if my orders get here without delays due to the tropical weather.

I have finally decided there is no treatment that actually works and there definitely isn't a cure so have just accepted the fact that I will just have to live with it for the rest of my life.

edited to add: I do have a hubby that somewhat keeps it at least under control

Not really, today's society is into the instant gratification. The gotta have it now mentality. My theory is setting a goal of what you want for the final outcome and try to do it as only with cash available. The 150 built took me about 2 months to find everything I wanted for it, for the right price and to actually get water into it.

That's fine I've had a couple of rough years, but I set my goals and meet them somehow. Aquariums are cheap compared to boats, you learn real quick how to rebuild parts yourself when you have a boat that's used in saltwater.
