How Do I Take Care of My New Guppy

One of my female guppies gave birth (although she only seemed to be at the early stages of pregnancy) and I know this because when I went home, I saw a single guppy fry hiding for its dear life! I'm assuming that all its other brothers and sisters were eaten by the adults because I wasn't there when they were being born. This is my first time caring for a guppy fry and I wanted to know the basics of it. I isolated the fry in a DIY breeder's trap and I tried to feed it some finely crushed flakes but it had no response to it (I think that its still a little stressed out from all the hiding that it had to do). What should I do to make sure that it stays alive? How will I know if it's a male or a female? Please help!

Sexing of the fry is not important at this time. The newborn will be ravenous in a few hours and will need to get a tiny morsel or two every few hours, however, I would remove the food you gave her now. I would also keep the newborn in the dark for the next few hours if possible. The baby would love a small floating plant or even a leaf to hide under. They seem to feel more secure.

Congratulations!

Pretty sure it's about 2 weeks after birth you can sex them.

If crushed flakes are not working try newly hatched brine shrimp.

Fish fry are like human babies. They are more sensitive to everything. Water quality, disease, etc. keep the water as clean as possible.

I only have one tank so is it okay if I can just turn off the lights in my tank? When will I know when to feed it? Thank you

Well then I'm not going to do anything to the water for some time (other than water changes) All my water levels are ideal so everything should be a-okay yes?

Umm...so my fry kept swimming into my gravel substrate (as in it would dig and burrow itself in) so I removed the substrate and put some cloth in to replace it. It's just going down to the bottom of its container...what's happening? Is it dying? Please answer

Please forgive me. My mind and heart are in Paris, the city of my youth. I can't believe so many young people were killed because they went to a concert. Just unbelievable.

Next time you want an ASAP answer please PM me.

To answer your questions, I am not sure what kind of DIY breeder concoction you made. I usually take the smallest plastic water bottle we have in the house, poke a few holes with a tip of a very sharp small knife, fill it about 3/4 full with tank water, add a few plant leaves, add the fry, close the bottle and voila! float it in the tank.

Every couple of hours I would add a few specks of very finely ground ( with a wine bottle) fish pellet. Don't add more food until he consumes it

Stop worrying, enjoy! Fish are fun

Whoah baby! Enjoy your trip but man, I did not know about that...

I just had a plastic bottle, cut it so that it can have a little tab that I can hang off the side of the tank. Its fixed in place and I put a small fake plant inside it . The fry doesn't seem to be eating at all, I'm going to try and cook some hard boiled egg and feed it just a little bit of yolk to see if it will respond to it Haha I'm sorry, I just want everything to go perfect for the new guy

The newborn will eat when he is ready. Don't worry about cooking eggs. It is important to keep his water clean. Good luck.
