How do I get driftwood to stay down in my tank?

Well I got a pretty cool piece of driftwood (mom brought it home from a trip to wisconsin) and when I tried to put it in my tank, it floated! I guess I should've known - it's called driftwood, but anyway, how do I get it to stay down in my tank? Will it eventually get water logged and sink? Do I need to use fishing line to tie it to something? My idea was to tie it to some suction cups, and stick it to the bottom - good idea? Any suggestions are appreciated. THANKS!

I use rocks to hold down my big piece. My small one came with slate screwed to the bottom, so I don't have to worry about it.

You can try boiling the driftwood if you have patience. Boiling it for some hours, changing the water and boiling it again should do the trick. After that, if the driftwood still floats, try to put it in a bucket big enough for it, filled with water ( doesn't have to be hot water ), leave it there for a couple of days, I did so for my driftwood and it waterlogged in 3-4 days.

Some of them just take time, I have read on here that some will tie them down to slate with fishing line or the like, others use rocks to hold them down. Its all up to you.

I use fishing line tied around the driftwood and rocks, works great.

Thanks guys! So eventually it does get waterlogged? I'm going to try boiling/soaking it, but if that doesn't work, I'll tie it to something.

At some point, yes. Depending on how thick it is (like mine is a good 4 inches across at one point) it could take a while.
