How Do I Feed Fish At The Bottom?

Hi, I have a dwarf gourami and a pleco and 3 rasboras. How do I feed the pleco and dwarf gourami bloodworms and other food? The rasboras just come in and steal the food from my gourami and Twisty (pleco) runs away when I try to feed him bloodworms or when I go near the tank. I just wish I could tell the rasboras to stay and wait like a puppy but I know I can't because they're fish.

You should be able to find things that will sink to the bottom but if the others eat it before it sinks then you can try using tweezers to put it right in front of them. You could also try sprinkling their food on one side of the tank while quickly feeding the pleco and gourami on the other.

I have a bunch of greedy platys, tetras and harlequin rasboras, so I usually sprinkle some food at one end and while they're busy with that drop some sinking catfish pellets at the other end for my cory's. I usually drop in a peice of veg for my pleco as well.

I will add, it's taken a while for the pleco to trust me, before it would dash and hide when it saw my hand getting near, but now it just sits there waiting for it's zucchini.

Dwarf Gouramis can be aggressive eaters, so it should manage to get some food once hungry enough. For the pleco, you could try feeding at night after you turn off the light

I have never heard of catfish pellets but I will look into that thank you!

They are? He seems to be really shy around all the others fish. I have tried to hand feed him and he will take the food but he's always at the bottom nibbling at my plants and the rocks and veggies I give to my pleco and snails, so it's really hard to do that all the time.

I used you too keep a dwarf gourami with my Rainbow Fish, which aren't really fish, but instead eating machines with fins. But my DG would muscle right in there and get his fair share. But other than feeding time the DG seemed so graceful.

Additionally, my DG's never stayed mear the bottom but were mid to upper tank swimmers.

How long have you had the DG, sometimes it does take them a little time to start feeling comfortable in the tank and get into the mix.

I got him in August 11. And I accidentally bought a gold 3 spot and she would bully him in the bag because the guy put them in the same bag. But they were in the same tank with other silvery gouramis and they were not bothering each other in there. I did give the gold to a friend who had a bigger tank.

He just stays at the bottom and will munch on the veggies I give to my snails and pleco
