How Do I Feed Bug Bites To My Fish?

Hello! Sorry, I couldn’t find a good thread to ask this on.

Right now I feed Omega One tropical flakes to my neon tetras and dwarf gourami. I’ve heard good things about Bug Bites so I ordered the tropical ones for small fish. Which leads me to two questions:

Are bug bites intended as treats or as their daily, regular food?

Has anyone else used them, and what is your opinion on them?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah they’re just regular food, just drop them in like normal. I got them because one of my fish is super picky, and he didn’t like them. Every one of my fish likes omega one flakes, but only some liked the bug bites. So personally, I saw no point in switching.

Just use them like you use other food. They’re intended to be food you feed regularly.

I really like them a lot! All my fish love them and even some who are supposed to be picky eaters eat them right up! The ingredients are great too.

My fish love them and I really recommend them. I feed it as their staple and then they also get frozen foods and my omnivores get veggies and they’re healthier than they were back when I was still using flakes. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to any type of flakes now.

I feed mine bug bites every other day or two alternating between different types of food. If I’m conditioning my fishes I would feed bug bites as a staple and brineshrimp because it’s high protein.

My bettas love them!! I feed them along with several other types of pellets so my bettas get an extremely varied diet and so they don't get stuck on just one food

After reading a knowledgeable person's assessment of Fluval bug bites (RD on MFK) , I wouldn't feed it. You can look up the thread for a more detailed response but the fat content is too high to be fed as a staple(studies show that under 10% is recommended to avoid fatty liver deposits). If you read the ingredients, there are a lot of fillers and terresiterr plant matter.

If you want to feed black soldier fly larvae, Northfin makes a similar product with better ingredients.

Northfin had some issues with their hormone free claims in the past, but they updated their website after the controversy. Their products are said to have quality ingredients.

New life Spectrum and Northfin are both high quality food but they also cost more usually. (Not always, both products are the same or cheaper than HikarI Massivore, for example).

There are endless debate threads on the various forums about food but I've found no one else more knowledgeable about fish nutrition then the said "RD".

Edit:

I feed all my fish on them as part of their diet. My clown loaches particularly love them - with them I moved them to a new tank and their old one had a pretty large snail colony which they fed on.. the new tank was seeded with a few but the loaches are very big - 6 - 8 inches and the snails I put in were not enough for them.. they were not eating and got very thin - the bug bites were a big save.

I do also feed Cucumber and frozen squares plus pleco tabs
